Hello!
Starting in the Curse of Monkey Island, and carrying on through Escape from Monkey Island, Guybrush Threepwood expresses a strange irrational fear of porcelain.
Although Guybrush has said "It's a long story, I'll explain later", he never does.
One theory is that it was because he was hit over the head with a porcelain vase in MI1 by Fester Shinetop. However, this theory can't be correct because it was Guybrush doing the hitting, and the fear never comes up in the second game.
So what do you think caused it?

I think the cause is the CMI writers! It obviously didn't come up in MI1 or MI2 because those were written by Ron Gilbert

I know. I am trying to work out how it came about.
As much as I hate to say it, just because Ron Gilbert did not make the game, the events of the game are just as legitimate as the events of the first two games. That is, until Ron Gilbert wins the lottery and makes Monkey Island 3a.

No they ain't, not to me anyway They didn't choose to follow up on Gilberts plan and did their own thing, therefor it doesn't count for me

I'm afraid that until Gilbert makes his own MI3a, they're all we have to go on, so they are legitimate. However, if Gilbert wins the lottery, they will be redundant.

Call me 2 years late on this, and probably about 7 years late on noticing, but the legendary Fear of Porcelain is exhibited in yet another adventure game...possibly as a tribute to Guybrush? Or perhaps Threepwood's phobia is derived from some old Addams Family running gag? Anyway, I found Puggsly exclaiming 'UGH!...a...PORCELAIN statuette! Who let this get in here?!' upon encountering one upon a shelf in the game 'New Adventures of the Addams Family' for Gameboy Color (yes, a point-and-click adventure for GBC... a rarity). And it didn't seem like he was merely questioning the taste of whoever bought the statuette...it seemed very much like he was just plain AFRAID of porcelain.
